“Will you marry me?” These are some of the most powerful words that a lot of us have dreamt of hearing since we were little girls. A few weeks ago on the most perfect fall day, Wayne said these words to the love of his life Laura on the top of Prospect Mountain in Lake George.
When Wayne had reached out a few weeks prior stating that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend and then capture some engagement photos, I could not be more ecstatic! And when he talked about wanting to pop the question at the top of Prospect Mountain, I knew I would do whatever I could to squeeze this session into an already crazy October.
Every year, Wayne and Laura spend a weekend in Lake George enjoying the foliage in October. They met online during the pandemic, when Wayne was actually overseas for the military. The beginning of their relationship was all virtual, and Laura ended up meeting Wayne’s family before she even met him. But despite a global pandemic and being thousands of miles apart, their love for each other grew. Even though Wayne asked Laura to take a half day that Friday and convinced her to get her nails done with a friend earlier in the week, Laura had no idea Wayne was preparing to ask her to marry him.
On that warm Friday afternoon in October, I arrived a few minutes before Wayne and Laura. I wanted to be sure to scope out the best spot for him to pop the question. Thankfully the mountain was pretty empty, so it did not take me long to find the perfect spot, which happens to be near where they always take a selfie every year.
As I hid in the bushes, anxiously awaiting him to pop the question, Wayne and Laura arrived at the top of the summit. When he got down on one knee, it was evident that Laura was in total shock! I have had the privilege of capturing a few proposals (check out an ADK proposal here), but this was one of the most genuine and sweetest reactions I have ever seen! Laura jumped up and down with excitement and screamed as she said yes to the much-anticipated question.
After saying yes and soaking in the surprise of becoming a fiance, Laura and Wayne spent the next hour and a half with me as I captured some photos of them on the top of Prospect Mountain. Once the summit closed, we then headed to the Fort William Henry Hotel to finish out the session. Wayne had surprised Laura by booking this hotel for their magical weekend, so we had to capture some photos down by the lake at sunset.
